Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) Awareness and Inclusion Training

Training and support to allow organisations to support staff and clients regarding sexual orientation and gender identity

We need more training like this – given by people who really understand the issues from personal experience as well as education.

Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI): Awareness and inclusion (Part 1)

This training supports individuals and organisations to develop awareness of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. It provides insight into the challenges that the LGBTQ+ community can face, as well as equipping attendees with the knowledge, resources and tools to ensure increased inclusivity for LGBTQ+ individuals.

In this training, you will:

  • Improve your consideration of LGBTQ+ identities and terminology
  • Develop awareness of LGBTQ+ people’s lived experiences, including discrimination, oppression and their impacts
  • Identify ways to ensure the inclusion of and safety for LGBTQ+ individuals at both a personal and organisational level
  • Approach and develop diversity and inclusivity in an intersectional and respectful way.

This is a comprehensive and engaging 3-hour training course, available as an online or in-person session for 25 to 30 participants. This can be a discrete individual session, or delivered as part of a training package.

This training is also offered in a condensed, introductory version as a 1.5-hour presentation/webinar, either online or in-person. The condensed option is an individual session, catering for larger participating audiences.

When booking: Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity training Part 1 (Awareness and Inclusion) can be delivered together with Part 2 (Inclusive working practice) as a full day of training.

Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI): Inclusive working practice (Part 2)

This training builds on and enhances the knowledge gained in the first part of the course: Awareness and inclusion. It offers time and space to reflect on existing personal and organisational practices, examining what inclusivity looks like in action. Participants are supported to develop a more nuanced awareness of inclusive practice through interactive activities, discussion, and exploring case studies and scenarios. This training works to help develop confidence in supportive approaches to include LGBTQ+ people in more meaningful ways. This training will be tailored with bespoke activities to meet the current needs of your organisation.

In this training, you will:

  • Investigate sexual orientation and gender identity terminology, including the impact on working practice of using more inclusive language
  • Develop knowledge of LGBTQ+ people’s experiences of discrimination and oppression, and how these impacts can shape working practices
  • Identify and examine what inclusive practice looks like, developing your confidence in available and suggested approaches and resources
  • Investigate how to create opportunities to build safer spaces for LGBTQ+ communities, and become a more effective and active ally.
