Applications open for Chair and Treasurer

METRO looking for skilled and experienced volunteers for key trustee roles

METRO is recruiting for a new Chair and a new Treasurer to lead the charity’s voluntary Board of Trustees following our Annual General Meeting on 17th May 2023.

We are keen to expand our team of skilled and experienced trustees with new Board members with specific experience in areas of leadership and finance of charity governance. We also welcome applications for general trustee roles.

The roles of Chair and Treasurer will each play an essential part in supporting our delivery of vital health and wellbeing services across London and the south east of England, in Sexual & Reproductive Health, Community, Mental Health & Wellbeing, Youth and HIV. With 93 staff and 70 volunteers, and a turnover of approximately £5million, METRO is a dynamic organisation with a strong LGBTQ+ foundation that expanded in the 2000s to include broader service provision to people with a range of protected characteristics and intersectional identities.

If you are an exceptional leader interested in leading our Board and guiding them in supporting, advising and scrutinising our senior management and leadership teams, you can find out more about our Chair role, and how to apply, on our volunteering opportunities page.

If you have strong finance experience and are interested in overseeing our financial management and operations, and providing expert advice, knowledge and scrutiny for the senior management and leadership teams, you can find out more about our Treasurer role, and how to apply, on our volunteering opportunities page.

METRO is undergoing a significant programme of organisational and cultural change to become an actively anti-racist organisation, and we are therefore seeking individuals who can demonstrate a commitment to working with us on this agenda.

We want to create an environment in which intersectional identities are valued and represented across the team, especially in our senior roles while fulfilling METRO’s constitutional stipulation for majority LGBTQ+ identifying staff and trustee teams. This intersectionality includes, but is not limited to, people of colour, young people, gay, lesbian, bisexual,  trans, non-binary, gender-fluid and gender-diverse people, and people with lived experience of socio-economic inequities.

Trustees will be involved in shaping and overseeing the delivery of our new five-year Strategic Plan, launching later this year, so there is a huge opportunity to play a crucial part in our development and realising our vision for the future of METRO.
