Yesterday's UK Supreme Court Ruling, on the legal definition of a woman, is a cause for deep concern. We recognise the anxiety this may cause for many in our communities, and we want to be absolutely clear: METRO Charity stands firmly for equality, dignity, and inclusion, for all trans and non-binary people.
We are committed to providing trans-inclusive services and to upholding the rights of our transgender and non-binary communities. We will do everything we can to minimise the impact of this ruling on our staff, service users, and partners, and to ensure our work continues to be welcoming, safe, and supportive for transgender, non-binary, intersex, and gender-diverse people.
It is important to remember that transgender people remain protected from discrimination under the Equality Act 2010, and that legal protection has not changed.
We have signed Consortium’s LGBT+ Sector Leaders’ Statement on the Supreme Court Ruling and we will work with sector partners to provide clarity in the coming days and weeks.
