We were delighted to support the launch of Greenwich Giving, a new scheme inspiring people who live and work in the borough of Greenwich to give – whether that's money, time, skills or items – to protect and strengthen their local places and communities.
The launch took place on Tuesday 3rd of December, which is also Giving Tuesday! The event was kindly hosted by Knight Dragon at The Forum in Greenwich's Design District. During the event, guests from across the Royal Borough of Greenwich came together to network, donate and find out how they can support this initiative. Attendees could contribute and claim items on the Giving Wall, which was full of pledges and in-kind donations to support local organisations; including volunteer hours, free experiences, and free use of spaces.
Attendees heard impactful speeches from five speakers: Counsellor Jit Ranabhat (Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich), Saboohi Bukhari (London Funders), Pamela Franklin (Caribbean Social Forum), Sophie Nicol (Woolwich Creative Club) and Anna Ritchie (Head of Greenwich Giving, METRO Charity), all seen photographed in the image above.
The event did a fantastic job at highlighting the power of community cohesion and collaboration.
Social Connection: Greenwich Giving's first campaign
Greenwich Giving has chosen Social Connection as the theme for its first campaign, chosen by hundreds of local community members. While Greenwich has so much to offer, nearly one in three residents report feeling lonely.
Loneliness and isolation affect people of all ages and backgrounds. People who are already vulnerable — due to poverty, disability or discrimination — are even more likely to feel lonely and to struggle. Residents of Greenwich say they want more help to build connection and community.
100% of funds raised in this campaign will go to charities and community groups working to tackle isolation and loneliness in Greenwich.
