Launched five years ago, the Charity Film Awards is the world’s biggest campaign to promote cause-based films. Since its creation, more than 2,000 causes have benefitted from the awards, gaining exposure, donations and volunteers. The Charity Film Awards celebrates films created by the third sector to change mindsets, raise awareness or fundraise.

This year, we entered the competition with the film Our History and we encourage you all to take action and support us with a vote!

The film is a culmination of our LGBTQ+ heritage project for which we received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant. Created from over 35 audio and video oral history interviews with former staff, service users and collaborators recorded during 2019 - with the involvement of a team of volunteers - the documentary also interweaves visual material from the charity’s archive, including newsletters, photographs, and ephemera. The narrative is one centred firmly on the margins of LGBTQ+ history, in its socio-economic and geographic focus about METRO’s work in communities and with young people, and our service development in mental health, sexual health, and HIV support.

Mark Delacour, our Director of External Affairs, said,

“The film has had such an impact already, from the passion with which participants shared their experiences to the warmth with which it has been received by audiences we have shared it with. We are delighted to have entered this year's Charity Film Awards and encourage you to vote!”
