Challenging invisibility of Latin Americans

METRO supports call to improve COVID-19 reponse for Latin American community

Proud to join members of the Coalition of Latin Americans in the UK (CLAUK), in sharing their joint learnings and concerns around the UK's COVID-19 response in the Latin American community with Public Health England (PHE).

In a letter addressed to Professor Kevin Fenton, National Director for Health and Wellbeing at PHE, they provided key facts about the community, challenges identified by coalition members and recommendations around what needs to change, specifically, the inclusion of a 'Latin American' category in data collection, further analysis of the impact of COVID-19 on Latin Americans, provision of public health information in Spanish and Portuguese, support and advice on employment rights, addressing inequalities in public services and benefits, legal aid for immigration advice, and support for community-specific services.
