METRO launches free LGBT health checks in Medway

We'll be checking for the early signs of stroke, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia

METRO is now delivering free NHS health checks for LGBT people aged 40-74 in Medway.

As we get older, we have a higher risk of developing conditions like stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia. The NHS health check is designed to spot the early signs of these conditions and help prevent them happening to you.

We're providing free health checks for residents who are aged 40-74, identify as LGBT and don't have any pre-existing health conditions.

At the health checks, we'll give advice on how you can lower your risk of a stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes or dementia. We'll also talk about how you can maintain or improve your health, which means you'll be more likely to enjoy life for longer.

We'll be delivering 19 clinics in community spaces, including LGBT venues and non-LGBT venues. We'll be promoting this service in local clinics and on social media.

Luis Ingram, our sexual health manager for Kent and Medway, said:

"These mini health MOTs can support you to reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and inform you of steps you can take to reduce the risk of dementia. It's 45 minutes that can add years to your life."
