Who we are

Viji Richard

she/her
Trustee

I am a leader in corporate governance, strategic management, and digital transformation, and I have been fortunate to work across a variety of sectors including agriculture, energy, aerospace, automotive, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. Over the years, I’ve been able to help organisations navigate challenges, develop sustainable growth strategies, and foster meaningful changes that create positive impacts for communities.

One of the most rewarding parts of my work has been helping negotiate industrial deals and bringing people together during times of crisis. I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with unions, governments, political leaders, and investors, ensuring that decisions are made with sustainability and people at the forefront. During challenging times, I’ve worked to organise events like city pride during riots to unite communities, spread messages of peace, and create spaces for solidarity.

My commitment to inclusion has also been a driving force in my career. I advocate for women, marginalised, and vulnerable communities, and have worked closely with STEM and women in manufacturing. As an ally of the LGBTQ+ community, I lead initiatives focused on the health and wellbeing of transgender people, particularly in the areas of HIV wellness. I’m also dedicated to building policies that promote trans inclusion and empower women in all aspects of society.

Growing up in a rural Tamil family in South India that has always been focused on empowering women and marginalised communities, I carry forward this legacy in my role as a trustee for organisations in both India and the UK. I believe in the importance of community—working with people across London and the Midlands to ensure that diverse voices are heard and included.

Joining METRO as a trustee has been a privilege. The charity’s long-standing impact on the community is something that truly resonates with me. I’m excited to contribute my experience in leadership, mentoring, and community engagement to support its future growth and success.

When I’m not working, I enjoy baking, cooking for communities, practicing yoga, painting, and even playing Segway polo! I’m also fortunate to be invited to speak at conferences, podcasts, and events where I can share my experiences and learn from others. I work closely with global organisations like the United Nations (UN), UNESCO, CRY (Child Rights and You), and OutLeadership to help advance important conversations around leadership, inclusion, and making the world a better place.

If my work resonates with you or you’re interested in connecting, please feel free to reach out—I am always eager to collaborate and learn from others who share a passion for creating positive, lasting change.
